How many questions do I need to get right to get a 5 on AP Calc AB?
Around 69 of 108 composite points — about 64%. For example, 35 of 45 multiple choice (42 weighted points) plus 27 of 54 FRQ points gets you there. The exact cutoff shifts a little each year with equating.
Is the AP Calc exam curved?
Not curved against other students — College Board uses equating, so the composite needed for each score is set by question difficulty, not by rank. In practice the cutoffs land near the estimates this calculator uses, moving a few points year to year.
How are the multiple-choice and FRQ sections weighted?
Each section is worth 50%. The 45 MCQs are multiplied by 1.2 (max 54 points) and the six FRQs are worth 9 points each (max 54), giving a composite out of 108.
Is AP Calc BC scored more leniently than AB?
The BC cutoffs are slightly lower (≈68 vs ≈69 for a 5 on recent released curves), and the BC cohort is stronger: in 2025, 44.0% of BC students earned a 5 versus 20.3% for AB.
What is the AB subscore on the BC exam?
BC students also receive an AB subscore (1–5) covering the AB-level topics on the BC exam. Colleges sometimes award AB-level credit for a strong subscore even when the overall BC score is lower.
